We are the women left on the shore
|
For the past twenty years, Scold's Bridle have participated in productions about the fishing heritage of the Port of Fleetwood. Shows like "The Final Trawl", the radio documentary "We Fished These Grounds" and more recently the show celebrating the return to Fleetwood of the trawler Jacinta, have paved the way for their solo production "We are the Women, Left On The Shore."
|
This is a sixty-minute glimpse into the perspective of the lives of women, in fishing ports all over the country, whose men hunted the fish. These women share a common experience, of life dominated by the sea.
|
This beautifully moving set of musical pictures leads the audience gently through the traumas and joys of those ashore. The heartfelt delivery, which underpins the show, stuns the listener and opens hearts and minds to the realities of living within a fishing community.
|
| " You shall be moved." |
Through songs, mostly from the pen of Ron Baxter and Ross Campbell, and stories gathered by years of experience, Scold's Bridle bring to the listener a show which evokes emotion from tears to laughter.

We lost our men to the cruel sea,
Torn away from home, from wife, from family,
Lost upon the untamed waves,
No flowers bloom on a trawlerman's grave.
Oh! Those folks ashore! Oh! How we do wish,
That they could know the true price of fish.
